UR Week 2, Day 2

Happy New Years Eve!

Wow, I feel great today! we got up bright and early to go into town and help my students take down their community service project Festival of Trees, came home and packed up all the Christmas decorations, cooked lunch AND dinner, took a nap, blogging now, then of to get ready for tonight.  Whew.  Side note:  I am glad I did not look ahead and see that pinto beans and rice was for lunch today or else I would have made a double batch.  If you remember from the last post I did not like the coriander in the beans.  Today I made it without the coriander and loved it.  Ate every bite! I did add a little water to moisten up the rice as it was in the fridge for a few days.

lunch: salad and pinto beans and rice.
Dinner prepped!
My plan: take dinner to my brother in laws house and eat before we go to the hockey game.  Take plenty of water with me to drink.  Stop at the grocery store on our way out and grab some fruit to snack on tonight.  My MO us to usually go to sleep by 9 pm if I am not drinking or eating, and I am doing neither from 7-midnight.  ughh, it is going to be a long evening...

But I have everything prepped, so I will be successful, and I am looking forward to waking up with out a hangover like everyone else.  Ha Ha.

On Instagram everyone is posting their year in review so I suppose it is appropriate to post that here as well:

2012 was an amazing year with many wonderful things to choose from, but these are my highlights: 1- last December I went out to try on wedding dresses.  I did not feel good about myself and came home with determination to become more healthy.  That was the day I ordered P90X and jumped headfirst into everything Beachbody.  2-I turned 30 in March. 3- Married the perfect man in June.  4- went on a fun little honeymoon in July.  5- Completed my first ever 10k.  I also ran 6 other 5k's.

To close the year I also like to add what I am thankful for:
1- A loving a supporting husband who I do almost everything with.
2- A great job teaching respectful students due to their wonderful teachers and my coworkers.
3- We are provided a wonderful home with my husbands job and that allows us to save for the future.
4- Friends that completely support my fitness/health journey and even have stepped it up with me.
5- To live in a rural agriculture community that provides the food I eat.
6- Family.

Cheers to a new year!

UR Week 2, Day 1

Today was pretty nice.  I stayed home and just hung around the house and cleaned, watched TV, had a little nap, but more importantly stayed on schedule with the supplements and meals.  :o)  I LOVE breakfast.  Fresh fruit.  Heck yes.  Lunch was a microgreen salad.  Today I made the Creamy Garlic Dressing.  I put way too much garlic in it though.  It tasted fine while I was eating it, but had a nasty aftertaste that lasted hours!  I might have to through it out and start over.  The recipe calls for 3-5 cloves so I used 4.  Next time I will use 2, taste, and add more if necessary.  I did not have a snack today.  Dinner was pretty good.  I like steamed zucchini, and the green beans were pretty good with lemon juice.  The rice and beans were ok, but a little dry.  I wish I did not add the coriander.  They were whole pods, and had too much spice for me in one bite.

The detox supplement was interesting.  The taste is manageable, but the texture is yucky. At lunch I tried to drink it too fast, inhaled a little, and spit it in the sink.  Oops.  Luckily no one was home to see that.  he he  It is going to suck having to take that three times a day.  Ahh.  Only 6 days left.

Now about my weight post earlier.  I believe it is important to point out that I am not doing the cleanse to loose weight.  HOWEVER, that is an awesome bonus.  Why am I doing the cleanse?  1- to clean my system and feel better.  I believe I am lactose intolerant, and this program cuts out dairy completely.  I want to see how I feel.  2- to learn how to prepare new meals.  We are a meat family and do not venture much outside of that realm.  I have already found foods that I intend to cook after the reset.  I have also found a few that there is no way in hell I will cook again. :-)  Those goals are definitely being achieved.  I will only weigh myself at the beginning of each week.  So one more time next week, and then at the end of the reset.  Time will tell.  And my eating habits too I suppose.
Breakfast, dinner, and a little humor.

Off to a GREAT start in week 2!

Say what scale?  That's right!   Down 6 pounds in week one.  I do not SEE a physical change yet, but I will take it. I imagine if I took photo's to compare to day 1 there is a change.  I am still not sure if those 6 pounds are worth the struggles I had in week one, but I have high hopes for week 2.  Breakfast was a plate of fruit. Yummy!  I did have to make a sacrifice today for the UR.  I have been very busy over Christmas break which makes it difficult to keep with the UR schedule.  Today my husband and friends went on a 4-wheeler ride without me.  I feel good about my decision to stay home.  I need to rest and focus on my food.  It is also our 6 month anniversary...  ehh 6 months is not that big of a deal.  Maybe I will go get a card for the hubby when he gets home.  6 months ago I told him I wanted to go to a NICE dinner today.  Well things change.  Dinner at home. :-) Like the husband said, we have many more days to be together.

UR Week 1, Day 7!

Day 7-
Oh yah!  Week one is done!  It was rough, but we made it.  Today was great.  I ate oatmeal and blueberries for breakfast.  Packed a microgreen salad for lunch and went snowboarding.  I know you are not supposed to "exercise" but it was great.  I truly think being in the house for days makes me depressed.  I needed out!  I took it easy and did not suffer any ill effects.

One item to note is that I forgot to pack salad dressing so I bought a package of Italian from the deli.  It was so good!  I wondered what was in this dressing that is different from the ones the UR has you make.  I read the ingredients and low and behold I found it: corn syrup.  I would say this is a good thing.  If my taste buds are changing so much from this experience that a little bit of sugar in my dressing tastes like candy causing me to mow down my salad, we are doing great!

I came home tonight and finished off the taco leftovers, and drank all 75 oz of water.  Not bad.  Now off to bed and wait to see what week 2 holds...

UR Week 1, Day 5-6

Day 5-
Wow, they claim that day 3-5 are the hardest.  Day 5 was definitely a struggle for me.  The first half of the day went great.  Then we came to dinner.  I spent 2 hours preparing dinner.  On the menu: nori rolls, miso soup, tempeh.  Why on God's green earth would a person voluntarily eat that?!  I have to admit that I had a breakdown.  I instantly started crying as I could not eat this meal and I had put so much work into it, not to mention I was hungry.  My husband came in the room and coached me through it telling me that now I know what I do not like, and I can sub it out next time.  I am very lucky to have him around supporting me in this.  Granted he was saying that as he was pouring delicious marinated pork loin into his mouth.  :-)  I did get a headache tonight.  I am not sure if it is from the UR.  I think it is more from shooting my shotgun today.  After dinner I left the kitchen a mess, my husband started a shower for me, and after the shower I took some Tylenol and went to bed with an ice pack.  I know we are not supposed to take meds, but these headaches will hold on for days of nothing is done early on about them.  I feel that it is more important to rid myself of this type of pain, than suffer for a cleanse.  I hope to see the long term effect of this cleanse will eliminate the headaches...

Reflection:  I am learning how to cook from scratch.  I am learning about new foods.  Some I like and some I do not like.  That is ok.  Some foods are so delicious now.  I crave sugar and had a grape today.  A simple grape.  It was like eating sweet bliss. It is realistic to say that my future "sweet snacks" will be healthy fruit.  I also realized today that I am a hunter.  My family feeds themselves primarily on the meat we harvest ourselves.  I will go vegan two weeks for the UR, but I plan to go back to eating meat.  Of course I will be more conscious of what and how much I eat in the future.

Day 6-
Much better day!  I focused on drinking my water.  I did go back to bed with an icepack after I got up early, took the dog for a walk, and did an hour of X Stretch.  The ice helped.  My meals have been good.  I do have a lot of leftovers from the week.  So dinner was eating the rest of the salmon.  I went I went grocery shopping for week 2 and bought everything for $65.00.  Nice!

I am definitely looking forward to week 2!  The food looks normal and tasty!

No pictures today.  Transferred all my pics off my phone to make more space.

UR Week 1, Day 2-4

The holidays are very challenging with this reset business!  I have been very successful through it all.  But I have to admit that Christmas did not quite feel the same without a big ol' dinner.  Ahh, it is what it is.  We had quality time riding 4-wheelers in the snow, and opening presents.

Day 2- Christmas Eve
The tacos are SOOO good!  But I have always had a problem reading directions... I doubled checked the amount of olive oil to add to the beans.  Yep, 1/4 cup.  I dumped it in...yuck, way to much.  Looked at the book again.  OHHH, 1/4 tbsp.  :-)  oops.  Drained it and I was good to go.  We had a dinner at my sister in laws parents house.  They were having taco's too, so it made it easier to take my food with me.  It was a little uncomfortable because I had to answer 1000 questions about the UR.

Day 3- Christmas day
Everything went well today. I made breakfast after feeding the cows, then we opened presents.  Merry Christmas!  Then I packed my snack and we went 4-wheeling in the snow.  So I did switch around my lunch and snack.  I had a boiled egg and 2 small pieces of our homemade jerky.  Jerky is not on the list, but I know what the ingredients are...  Then we came home and I made quinoa salad and veggies with humus for lunch.  The nice thing about the quinoa is you cook enough in one batch for the whole week.  So I went ahead and made enough for three salads for lunches.  Dinner was delicious, but I apparently forgot to buy asparagus which I was more excited for.  So I just had salmon and potatoes.  Unfortunately I had a MAJOR migraine last night that stopped me from eating all my food.  I finally broke down in the night and took a lot of medicine I had been prescribed and sat with an ice pack.

Day 4-
This morning I was a little foggy, but I think that was due to the medicine, not the reset.  I got up and made my breakfast right away and enjoyed every bite of it.  That is when I realized I forgot to take the oxygenize and capsules.  DANG IT!  The rest of the day went well.  I packed my lunch which was zucchini and cashew soup and a microsalad.  The first few bites were delicious and then I was over it.  I did not finish my lunch.  When I got home I did scarf down my snack.  I think I added too much peanut butter with my apple.  It is a weakness, and I was hungry.
No photo of dinner.  I roasted al the nuts today to last a while.
Bottom right: lunch all packed ready to go.
I have noticed today that I am grumpy.  That could be from my headache.  But I have been negative about the reset and missing out on all the good food of the holidays.  Ehh I will make it.  It will be worth it.
Tonight was another dinner at someone else's house.  I ate a small piece of salmon (I figure it is ok, because I barely ate mine last night :-))  potatoes, 1 roasted tomato, and steamed broccoli and cauliflower.  It was delicious.  Probably more seasoning than the UR would call for.  I did pass on the pie that everyone was oohing and ahhing over.  But the cook did not eat that either so I did not feel out of place.  I made it home.  I am a little hungry, so I better start drinking water.

UR Week 1, Day 1

Day one went pretty good.  Breakfast was very filling and I actually did not eat 1/2 a slice of bread.  I really focused on drinking enough water. That kinda bit me in the bum later in the day.  I am not used to going to the restroom so often.  :-)  I had a trap shooting practice at 1 PM (aka no restrooms!) and actually left a tad early so I could get back home.  Oh man!

Lunch was filling also.  I was surprised that it took me 1 hour to prep the veggies for the salad and make the dressing. I am glad I did that right after I ate breakfast so I had enough time.  I can see how this would be doable after the reset though.  I will probably make several salads at once for the following week.  Once you are chopping veggies it is probably just as easy to do a lot at once.

There was a little hiccup at dinner.  I met my dad at a restraunt for dinner.  My plan was to eat after our "dinner," but I was not looking forward to his dissapointment and having to wait hours to eat.  So I did find a taco salad on the menu that was very close to the recipe for day 2's taco dinner.  So I switched them.  I ordered the salad without cheese and dressing. I ate it with salsa and it was great.  It was a challenge to stay with in the correct portion.  I really wanted to eat all the chicken but I left it.  My husband ordered a margaritta like we always do, and I was a tiny bit jealous, but not too bad.

No cravings really.  I am just suprised how easy it is to put stuff in your mouth.  As I was driving I reached over for a piece of gum, later I saw a mint I would have popped in.  But I just take a drink of water and it is fine.

On to day two!

Intro

A little about me:
#farmfitness

I live in a small rural community in Eastern WA. In the summer I work at a grain elevator during wheat harvest. Last summer I spent my spare time trying to exercise as much as possible.  So I entertained my facebook friends with my “Farm Fitness” routines.  So that is where FARM FIT comes from.  (Someone already had farmfitness spoken for L)

The focus of this blog is all things fitness related.  I love all Beachbody products and recently signed up to be a Beachbody Coach.  I have completed P90X and Insanity.  I have also toyed with RevAbs.  Yesterday I started the Beachbody Ultimate Reset (UR), and plan to blog daily about this life training process.  I am excited to learn how to cook right and manage my time in the kitchen.  When I am finished with the UR I will start TuboFire.

The farmfitness routine that started it all.

I also am trying to enjoy running. I actually hate it and will usually only run for a purpose: like if a bear is chasing me.  J  That is where the name of this blog came from.  But I am getting better.  I actually just finished my very first 10K.  It was not bad.  My goal is to do 10 races next year, 3 of those being 10K’s.
